Coming to Mysore with an injury can seem intimidating at first, but if we can find the humility and courage, this is the best place to be! Our teacher and our community, are so supportive and understanding. We realise in these moments how diverse the experience of yoga can be.
This year I’ve been working to recover from a very elusive nerve related injury, which has brought a lot of pain and discomfort since my last visit to Mysore.
With extreme flexibility in certain areas, it can be easy to allow that part of the anatomy to take on all the work in achieving complex physical forms.
After many months of seeing no progress towards my recovery at all, I am now finally starting to feel improvement, I know that I will be fully healed soon and I’m just so excited! Practicing in the main shala has a beautiful way of bringing on transformation and new energy.
This is a video of my first time ever attempting tic tocs a few years ago. I had just learned the final posture of the intermediate series and naturally reached the point of adding this to the back bending sequence. It was so much fun! My friend Johnny guided me so clearly that it was easy to integrate the movement patterns. It didn’t require too much strain or tension, and I managed to do it this way for a few years. It’s clear to me now, while watching the video, that my middle was not stable enough to support the bend over the long term. I’ve now learned to create solidity in that area, I’m looking forward to seeing how it manifests as I steadily integrate back into moving through my full practice
