When you grab on to the bar to perform a lat pulldown, don’t be under the impression that wider is better. Square your hands up. By that, I mean distance your hands adjacently to your shoulders, not at the edge of the bar. By doing this small shift in hand placement, you’ll actually incorporate more of your lats, making the whole exercise now entirely more effective. Don’t swing back either! Bring the bar down straight to the top of your chest and allow your lats do the work, control is the name of the game.
Honourable mention goes to performing this with an underhand grip, too. Another subtle alteration to your gripping which is also very effective.
