It seems our hive-splitting, queen-rearing experiment is working! Today is "Day 8" post split and I found about as many queen cells being nurtured. However, we only need one.
We will check back in 10 days or so and remove any additional cells still remaining.
Due to the drought weather we have been experiencing this spring, there isn't much nectar flowing so I went ahead and added syrup for this split hive tonight. I'll have to make up another batch and take it down for the "back hive" in the morning as well, as their food stores are dwindling also.
