There are no saviors waiting in the wings responsible for your happiness, your worth, your joy, your passion, or for showing you the path that leads you home. The path that leads you home to yourself can only be intuitively led by YOU. What a scary proposition if our survival patterns have been creating a narrative that says “ you are not okay unless.......” . Codependency and coping skills developed in childhood and relationships we witnessed are a tool for our growth and healing . When we turn around and look at our shadows as a map of discovery and growth, the beautiful thing is that we heal. I used to disassociate and tap into all things “busy”. Because my narrative was that caretaking was love , I made sure I filled that role 💯. The truth is we are our number 1. We have to be. Yoga and somatic movement has been a tool for integration and being at one with what it feels like to be fully alive in my body. This is not always pleasant , yet in order to show up for ourselves we have to sit with the ebbs and flows of our emotions and tap into th e beauty of it All. This is what it is to be fully Alive ✨🦋  #selfcaretips     #somaticmovement     #cleaneating    #cleanfood     #yogaeverydamnday     #yogainspiration     #fitspo     #foodblogfeed     #wednesdaymotivation     #yogaeveryday     #8limbsofyoga     #f52grams     #optoutside  🌲   #healthyfood    #huffposttaste     #instahealthy    #justeatrealfood     #onmytable     #cleaneats    #pnwphotography     #traumarecovery     #traumainformed     #soma     #thekitchn     #adaptogenic

(This is a continuation of a series about the 8 limbs of yoga. If you missed the previous posts, check them out now. 😉) Another quality of a yogi is asteya, or not stealing. To steal is to take more than is freely given, and it can refer to the stealing of physical objects and possessions as well as stealing time, energy, and ideas. Whenever we steal, the underlying belief is one of scarcity. Because we believe that there is not enough or that we are not enough, we feel compelled to take more than is freely given. Keep in mind that having more is not an indicator of happiness. If it was, the happiest people in the world would be the richest people and the most miserable people would be those who have less and this just is not the case. Our happiness is not dependent on how much we have, but rather on how content we are with what we have. Therefore, it is not scarcity itself that makes us unhappy but the belief of scarcity. Likewise, it is our recognition of abundance that allows us to appreciate what is and to see that the truly precious is already within us and around us. I think Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj said it well when he explained, “You never want what’s true. You want what you don’t have and don’t want what you already have, and so you suffer. It’s so perplexing! Why not simply reverse it? Why not want what you have, and not want what you don’t have? It’s so simple! You can be happy; it’s here for the taking. You want little things when you could have the entire universe and eternity.” Yoga Sutras II.37 When established in non-stealing, there is access to all that is precious.   #trueflowyoga     #yogaphilosophy     #8limbsofyoga     #asteya     #astavakrasana

Our School is based around “Mindful Living”. Mindfulness to me means (many things) especially to be less judge-mental with myself and with others//perhaps in the way others live their life. Mindfulness also navigates me back to home, my heart, to be more present in the day to day flow 🌺and taking more time to notice the tiny joyous moments: Lately that HAS been my meditation 🧘‍♀️ practices where I focus on building strength within my breath..in order to sustain more vitality in my days....SO Beautiful! . . . Learning to concentrate daily is a form of practice in itself, called Dharana (Sanskrit term for Focus) and the 6th of the 8 Limbs of Raja Yoga. Concentration is the practice of continually refocusing the mind on the object in which you learn to focus (breath/sankalpa/dharma/your self, etc).   @savvysoulyoga   school we incorporate all 8 Limbs of Yoga. Learning to create a “DAILY” ritual is like creating a new daily healthy habit! . .   #Meditation   is a natural way to balance your life and stay mentally healthy. Our school is based around these ancient practices of mindfulness & dhyana 🕉 💚❤️💚Find a place where you can be quite and close your 👀...Go inward and shine a 🔦 | wink 😉. . . The Needle is in Maui, sacred spot because it’s Hawaii’s natural alter (my grandmother was Catholic & had an alter she prayed at daily). 🙏🏽 . The 'Iao Needle is 2,250 feet above sea level. The traditional name is Kuka`emoku and it's known as the phallic stone of Kanaloa (Hawaiian god of the ocean); thus the 'Iao Needle was once used as a natural altar.   #focusedmind     #8limbsofyoga     #dharana     #rajayoga     #savvysoulyoga     #kauaiadventures     #iaoneedle     #savvysoulmaui     #kukaemoku     #kauaimeditationretreat   📸images by   @gatorman0073

Friendly reminder: Do you know what yoga is? Yoga is so much more than a cool pose... yoga is everything, breath, thoughts, behavior, actions, how we react to everything around us,, our consciousness. If you truly consider yourself a yogi then start with your practice off the mat.   #8limbsofyoga     #Yogabasics     #yogi     #yoga     #yogilove

Meet Your Teachers @ Revolution Community Yoga! +++ Lelia Leary +++ 1. Why do you teach Yoga? I teach Yoga to pass along a powerful practice that I feel grateful to have learned myself. At my first Yoga class, I was struck with a sense of deep relaxation and wholeness that was hard to believe was generated simply though postures and breath work. That sense of calm and presence was so profound and continues to be an essential tool for managing the churning thoughts and worries of the mind. I felt inspired to share this practice and allow people to experience that same nourishment for the body. No pills, potions or powders, just the body coming back into balance by giving it the space it needs to settle. +++ 2. What is your favorite thing about teaching Yoga? My favorite part about teaching is providing a space for this captivating practice. I love to share this art and allow people to experience the same sort of release that drew me to yoga. It is endearing to watch people unwind, let go and settle. It’s a pleasure to see their calm expressions at the end of a session. +++ 3. How do you honor the roots and history of Yoga? I honor the roots of yoga with a traditional opening sequence for my practice. I feel calm and energized upon completion of sun salutations and I love to share this with students. With just 4 or 5 sun salutations, one can notice the warming of the body and the focusing of the mind. For many people a sitting mediation practice is too challenging but this moving meditation can serve as an entry point. +++    #yogainspiration     #spiritual     #mindfulness     #yoga     #revolutioncommunityyoga     #rcy     #patanjali     #yogasutras     #yogaphilosophy     #8limbsofyoga    Revolution Community Yoga in Acton http://revolution.yoga/

I bet if I asked any of you if you thought you were a violent or harmful person the majority would say, “no.” But what does your internal dialogue look like? How to you speak to yourself/about yourself? What does the narration in your head sound like if it was played out loud to others? I remember learning about   #ahimsa   while in teacher training at   @integralyoganyc   . It basically means/is the practice of nonviolence (keeping it simple for Instagram). I would often run stories about things that “could” go wrong or obsess over errors I made, things I could have done better. I wasn’t kind at all and it was harmful. For lots of reasons. Observe your thoughts today. Practice nonviolence, no harm, within yourself... it is more than just the physical expression which many of us limit our thinking too. There is more growth to be had. This is where my focus has been this morning after a tough start.   #wegotthis   🖼:  @coolman  _coffeedan   #onedayatatime     #chronicpain     #chronicillness     #fibromyalgia     #fibropain     #ms     #ra     #meditation     #yoga     #8limbsofyoga     #cda     #dailyhealing     #mentalwellness     #mentalhealth

3 BREATHING TECHNIQUES FOR WHEN YOU'RE FREAKING OUT (save this post!) 👇🏼 .   #Pranayama   is one of the foundation blocks of a yoga practice and it translates to mean ‘breath – control’. For thousands of years breath control has been universally known as a simple and highly effective form of relaxation and as a tool for reducing anxiety. But, I know, it’s easier said than done. . How can you focus on the breath when you’re in a panic? Here are my top three breathing techniques you can try. All of these can be used when you’re freaking out, but equally, practised every day as part of a regular meditation, they can help you to ensure that the freak-out actually doesn’t come all that often. . ✨ BREATH COUNTING: sit up straight with your feet flat on the floor, relax the shoulders and rest the hands on the knees or the thighs. Take a deep breath in through the nose and then exhale softly through the nose and close your eyes. Breathe in for the count of 3, out for the count of 3. Keep going until you can increase to 4, and maybe 5. . ✨ CONTAINER VISUALISATION: sit up straight with your feet flat on the floor, relax the shoulders and rest the hands on the knees or the thighs. Take a deep breath in through the nose and then exhale softly through the nose and close your eyes. Start to notice your natural breathing rhythm. Once you’re settled, start imaging your torso as an empty container and the breath you breathe in as liquid. As you inhale, visualise the container filling up from the bottom to top with the breath (liquid) and as you exhale imagine your container emptying from top down to the bottom, don’t stop until all the liquid is emptied. Continue this until you feel more relaxed. . ✨HEAD RUSH TECHNIQUE: take a deep, long, breath in through the nose, followed by 20 short, sharp breaths out through the mouth making a ‘ssshh’ noise. After the 20 breaths out, take another long, deep, breath in through the nose and gently hold that breath in for as long as you can, until you need to breath again. Notice how long you can go without breathing (without straining!). When you need to breathe, simply exhale gently through the nose and notice how you feel.

Day 8   #WorkInWorkOut     @jyanyogastudio   The one belief system that has helped me in times of doubt... ... is Secular Humanism which has very intricate similarities to the 8 Limbs of Yoga by Patanjali. In particular, the Yamas and Niyamas that yogis practice speak of kindness, ethics, compassion and discipline... really works to complement Humanism very well. . We are all responsible for our own actions and how we affect other people. Often, I find myself frustrated with how people behave and act, and I get frustrated with myself for thinking unkind thoughts towards myself or others... so with the belief system in place, it helps guide my mind to a more neutral state so that I am less affected emotionally. . This aerial lunge requires groundedness, balance, a light touch on the lifted foot and a certain finesse in order not to topple over... much like how we approach human relationships in a way! .   #aerialyoga     #aerialyogateacher     #lunge     #secularhumanism     #yoga     #8limbsofyoga     #yamas     #niyamas     #empath     #highlysensitiveperson
